Justice For All Welcomes Italian Investigation into “Sarajevo Safari” War Crimes

Human rights group calls for full accountability for atrocities committed during the Siege of Sarajevo

CHICAGO (Nov. 26, 2025) Justice For All, the international human rights organization founded from the Bosnia Task Force, issued a strong response following the launch of a formal Italian investigation into allegations of “human safari” or “sniper tourism” during the Siege of Sarajevo. The Milan prosecutor’s office is investigating claims that wealthy foreigners, including Italians, paid large sums of money to the Army of Republika Srpska for the opportunity to shoot unarmed Bosnian civilians from sniper positions. Reports suggest a chilling “price list” existed—charging higher fees for shooting children—turning a humanitarian tragedy into a grotesque spectacle.

“The ‘Sarajevo Safari’ allegations reveal a cruelty that must be confronted with the full force of international law,” said Imam Abdul Malik Mujahid, President of Justice For All. “This is the ultimate expression of the dehumanization of victims that fuels genocide, a pattern we see repeating today.”

The investigation, spurred by the 2022 documentary Sarajevo Safari, has reopened deep wounds for survivors. To date, not a single sniper has been held personally accountable for targeting civilians during the siege, which claimed over 11,000 lives in Sarajevo alone. Over 3,200 war crimes cases in Bosnia remain unresolved. Imam Saffet Catovic, Director of UN Operations for Justice For All and a former Bosnian diplomat, noted that impunity in Bosnia has echoed across generations: “Three decades ago, we reported this very ‘safari’ horror to the ICTY. The failure to act then created a blueprint for genocide denial. The impunity enjoyed by snipers and the ‘tourists’ who joined them mirrors the impunity we witness today—where Palestinian lives are treated as expendable. Justice for Sarajevo is intrinsically linked to justice for Gaza. ‘Never Again’ must mean never again for anyone, anywhere.”

Justice For All calls for:

  • A full, transparent investigation by Italian and Bosnian prosecutors into the “Sarajevo Safari” allegations to ensure all perpetrators and their enablers are identified and brought to justice.
A renewed international commitment to prosecuting war crimes and genocide, ending the culture of impunity that allows such atrocities to recur.
