Justice For All’s Save Uyghur Campaign Welcomes Passage of Uyghur Policy Act in the U.S. House

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

September 3, 2025

Justice For All’s Save Uyghur Campaign welcomes the passage of the bipartisan Uyghur Policy Act (H.R. 2635) in the U.S. House of Representatives on September 2, 2025. The bill, championed by Rep. Young Kim (CA-40), Rep. Ami Bera (CA-06), and House Foreign Affairs Committee Ranking Member Rep. Gregory Meeks (NY-05), lays out a comprehensive U.S. strategy to support Uyghurs and other Turkic people enduring crimes against humanity and genocide by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

The legislation would:

  • Coordinate U.S. policy by directing the Secretary of State to lead Uyghur human rights initiatives that protect Uyghurs’ ethnic, religious, cultural, and linguistic identity.
  • Support human rights defenders working to end CCP abuses against Uyghurs..
  • Force the CCP to end crackdowns against Uyghurs by increasing accountability to human rights organizations and develop strategies to close detention facilities and political indoctrination camps.
  • Protect the Uyghur diaspora by combating transnational repression and establishing reporting mechanisms for victims.

The Uyghur Policy Act passed with strong bipartisan support and now moves to the Senate for consideration, where its companion bill (S.1542), introduced by Senator John Curtis (R-UT) earlier this year, awaits action.

Imam Abdul Malik Mujahid, President of Justice For All, praised the development, “This bill is a historic step toward holding the Chinese government accountable for its atrocities against the Uyghur people. For too long, the world has watched in silence as Uyghurs endured mass detention, forced labor, and erasure of their identity. We commend the House for its leadership and urge the Senate to move quickly to make this policy law.”

Hena Zuberi, Director of Advocacy for Justice For All stated, “Our Save Uyghur Campaign has been advocating for the passage of this bill for several years and we are delighted that it has passed the House and look towards the Senate for firm resolve to end transnational repression of Uyghurs and advocates in the USA.”

Arslan Hidayat, Team Lead of the Save Uyghur Campaign, added, “The Uyghur Policy Act sends a clear message: the Uyghur genocide cannot be ignored. By protecting the rights of Uyghurs at home and abroad, this bill provides real tools to resist China’s campaign of repression. We call on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to advance this legislation without delay.”

Justice For All and the Save Uyghur Campaign reaffirm their commitment to advocating for Uyghur human rights and urge U.S. lawmakers to ensure this bipartisan bill becomes law.
