Statement on Senator Baldwin’s Resolution on India

Justice For All commends Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) for introducing a Senate resolution on India. The resolution calls upon the “…United States Government engage the Government of India to seek a swift end to the persecution of, and violence against, religious minorities and human rights defenders in India and a reversal of government policies that discriminate against Muslims and Christians…”

This is an important step for the United States Senate in order that the Indian government under Prime Minister Modi understands that as the US seeks to expand its partnership with India, it also expects its partners to uphold the religious and human rights expected of democracies. India has seen a steep slide in religious and human rights in the years that Prime Minister Modi has been in power.

Justice For All, along with partners has engaged the offices of Sen. Baldwin, and had presented a draft resolution on India. We urge US Senators from all states to support and pass the resolution, paving the way for a more meaningful and effective engagement on the issue than has been done so far.
