Justice For All Statement on World Peace Day and the General Assembly Vote Endorsing the New York Declaration and the Path to a Just Peace
September 19, 2025
Justice For All acknowledges the recent vote by the United Nations General Assembly, where 142 nations endorsed a resolution on Palestine that backs a two-state solution. It calls for an immediate ceasefire, the release of all hostages and the establishment of a viable, sovereign Palestinian state. Known as the New York Declaration, the outcome of a conference co-chaired by France and Saudi Arabia, this is a significant diplomatic step.
While this overwhelming vote reflects the will of the international community and isolates the few states, including Israel and the United States, who voted against it, we must be clear: declarations alone cannot stop a genocide. As we have stated since this crisis began, and as detailed in our comprehensive report “Genocide, Apartheid, and Occupation in Palestine” (2024), the Palestinian people are facing a campaign of extermination. The world sees Israel targeting record numbers of journalists, first responders and U.N. staff. We hear its leadership call for collective punishment and see it carrying out war crimes. We are disgusted.
“The New York Declaration lays out a roadmap, but a roadmap is useless if the bus is already careening off a cliff with civilians trapped inside,” said Imam Malik Mujahid, President of Justice For All. “We appreciate the recognition of a Palestinian state by many nations and other measures, but as we said in June, we must now move from ‘actionable frameworks’ to action. The world must now enforce the terms of this declaration with immediate, concrete measures to protect life.”
The urgency of this moment is compounded by the upcoming commemoration of the International Day of Peace on September 21. This year’s theme, “Act Now for a Peaceful World,” is a direct call to move beyond symbolism. True peace requires justice. And justice requires action.
Justice For All demands that nations act in the spirit of this declaration and the imperative of Peace Day by:
- Imposing immediate and comprehensive economic sanctions on Israel, including a full trade embargo, not limited to settlements, until it ends its atrocities and commits to full reparations and rebuilding.
- Enacting mandatory multilateral and unilateral arms embargoes on Israel to stop the flow of weapons used to commit war crimes and the attack of neighboring sovereign nations (Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, Iran, Tunisia and Qatar) in flagrant violation of international law and with complete impunity.
- Authorizing a U.N.-mandated Multinational Armed Protective Force for Gaza with a mandate to protect civilians, secure humanitarian aid delivery (including supporting the efforts of the Global Sumud Flotilla Coalition) and preserve evidence of atrocities.
The great majority of the world’s people want this genocide stopped. It is time for their governments to be as brave as their citizens and go beyond symbolic actions to introduce resolutions and policies that can actually save lives. Let us create Peace Day every day by acting now for a peaceful and just world.
