Modi wants to control Friday sermons in Kashmir
The Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board proposed standardising Friday sermons across the mosques and shrines it manages in India-administered Kashmir.
The Board is chaired by Syed Darakhshan Andrabi, a senior leader of the ruling Hindu-supremacist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), while its core members were nominated by the party.
The proposal drew condemnation from individuals and organisations across the valley, who described it as “interference in the religious affairs of Kashmiri Muslims”.
It is part of a broader effort by the Indian state to determine how Kashmiri Muslims practise their faith and to cultivate a form of Islam that aligns with its own colonial interests.

Protests in India brutally suppressed
An estimated police force of about 30,000 has brutally suppressed the protests in New Delhi against India’s purging millions of citizens from the eligible voters lists. Two thousand protestors and journalists have been arrested. The protests were demanding resignation of Gyanesh Kumar, the chief election commissioner of India, over irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Earlier leaders of the popular Cockroach Janata Party were also arrested because of their opposition to the SIR.
A comprehensive survey of how the SIR has been abused to remove mostly Muslim names in several states is available at the Sabar Institute web site. The organization warns that the proceedings thus far are indicative of what to expect when the SIR is conducted in the larger states, such as Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh. By removing voters opposed to the majoritarian agenda of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Modi and his cohorts are creating a situation where their winning the polls becomes a virtual surety.

Starbucks Complicity: No Coffee Worth Genocide
Starbucks recently opened its first two retail stores in Urumqi, occupied East Turkistan. This expansion comes while the Chinese Communist Party continues an active genocide, detaining over one million Uyghurs and subjecting Muslims to forced labor, mass internment, and systematic cultural erasure.
Human rights advocates and U.S. lawmakers have fiercely condemned the move as “morally bankrupt,” warning that every cup sold ties an iconic brand directly to state-sponsored oppression. By restructuring its mainland operations through a joint venture with Boyu Capital, Starbucks is choosing commercial expansion over human dignity.
Justice For All’s Save Uyghur Campaign firmly condemns this corporate complicity. We call on our community to stand on the right side of history by refusing to fund corporate greed alongside active atrocities. Demand that Starbucks immediately shut down its stores in East Turkistan. Join us in taking action—#BoycottStarbucks today!

Judges in the Gambia v Myanmar case are preparing a ruling that will have ramifications for Israel and Gaza
As the International Court of Justice (ICJ) prepares its ruling in The Gambia v. Myanmar, the decision promises to reshape global genocide law. Arising from the 2017 military “clearance operations” that forced over 700,000 Rohingya into Bangladesh, this case could mark the first time the ICJ holds a state fully responsible for committing genocide.
Crucially, legal experts note the verdict will set vital precedents for other ICJ proceedings, most notably South Africa’s genocide case against Israel regarding Gaza. How the court evaluates Myanmar’s argument that counter-terrorism operations preclude genocidal intent will directly impact the legal standards applied to Israel’s defense.
For Rohingya survivors, true justice requires perpetrators to be held accountable, reparations, and the restoration of full citizenship rights stripped under the 1982 Citizenship Law. As we await this monumental decision, Burma Task Force stands firm with survivors in demanding full international legal accountability.
