Justice For All’s Save Uyghur Campaign Welcomes Senate Foreign Relations Committee Advancement of Uyghur Policy Act of 2025
SUMMARY: The Save Uyghur Campaign welcomes the United States Senate Foreign Relations Committee’s support of the Uyghur Policy Act to strengthen support for Uyghur rights under the occupation of East Turkistan.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WASHINGTON, D.C. (June 19, 2026)
Justice For All’s Save Uyghur Campaign welcomes the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee’s advancement of the Uyghur Policy Act of 2025 (S.1542), an important bipartisan effort to strengthen U.S. policy in support of Uyghur human rights, religious freedom and protection from transnational repression. For years, Uyghurs have faced mass detention, forced labor, family separation, religious persecution and transnational repression.
The legislation recognizes the ongoing persecution of Uyghurs and other Turkic Muslim peoples by the Chinese government and establishes a comprehensive framework to elevate Uyghur human rights as a priority of U.S. foreign policy.
“The Senate Foreign Relations Committee’s advancement of the Uyghur Policy Act sends a clear message that the suffering of the Uyghur people will not be ignored,” said Arslan Hidayat, Team Lead of Justice For All’s Save Uyghur Campaign. “This legislation demonstrates that Congress remains committed to holding the Chinese government accountable for its ongoing abuses. We urge the Senate to swiftly pass this bill and send it to the President’s desk.”
If enacted into law, the Uyghur Policy Act of 2025 would:
- Strengthen U.S. efforts to combat Chinese transnational repression targeting Uyghurs.
- Create a mechanism for reporting harassment, intimidation and threats linked to the Chinese government.
- Require annual reports to Congress on Uyghur rights and transnational repression.
- Increase coordination with allies and Muslim-majority countries on Uyghur human rights.
- Support Uyghur advocates through public diplomacy and educational programs.
- Develop an international strategy to pressure China to close detention camps and allow independent access.
- Expand Uyghur-language expertise within the U.S. Foreign Service.
- Promote accountability for Uyghur abuses at the United Nations.
- Support independent reporting on the situation of Uyghurs and other persecuted groups.
The Save Uyghur Campaign commends all lawmakers who have supported this legislation and urges Congress to continue advancing policies that defend the rights, dignity and freedom of the Uyghur people.
